There is a widespread agreement that capitalism needs to become more responsible and contribute in a meaningful way to addressing some of the major challenges of our age, such as environmental degradation, climate change, Covid-19 and fall-out from geopolitical instability.
A central issue in the quest for a more responsible and sustainable form of capitalism is that of accountability. How can society ensure that there are consequences for corporations (and the people who control them) for irresponsible conduct in corporate and financial governance?
This conference is convened jointly by Monash Law’s Centre for Commercial Law & Regulatory Studies (CLARS), King’s College London and Vanderbilt University, with the support of Monash University’s Better Governance and Policy. The conference, which is being held at the Monash campus in Prato, Italy, brings together leading scholars from the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom and the Asia-Pacific region, with the aim of examining how corporate and financial accountability can be enhanced in an era of unprecedented challenges and insecurity.
