Why Monash Law?
Why Monash Law?
A vibrant law school at the heart of Melbourne’s legal profession
At Monash Law, we believe it’s important graduate students remain in close contact with the working profession. That’s why our LLM program is taught at our dedicated postgraduate centre in the heart of Melbourne’s legal precinct.
Every student is encouraged to participate in partnerships with industry and the legal profession to help take their legal career to the next level.
A history of excellence
Monash University is ranked in the top one per cent of world universities according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 and we’re a member of the prestigious Group of Eight Universities here in Australia.
The Monash Master of Laws program is designed equally for internationally trained lawyers and domestic lawyers looking to deepen their knowledge and expand their expertise.
Our academics are world leaders in their fields and include many current and former legal practitioners. So, whether you choose to study towards one of our nine specialisations or for a generalist degree, you know you’ll be taught by the best.
You’ll also learn alongside the best: Monash graduates fill many of the most prominent roles in the Victorian legal profession, as well as high profile corporate and legal roles around the globe. Drawn from a range of backgrounds and experiences, they’ll enrich and challenge your knowledge, insights and ideas.
A global, progressive outlook
We combine our close links to Melbourne’s legal profession with an international outlook. Through collaborations in Australia and overseas, we engage closely with high-calibre industry professionals and partner universities. We also offer students the opportunity to take part in legal clinics based here and around the world.
At Monash, we believe in the need for law schools to educate students for tomorrow’s legal landscape as well as today’s. That’s why we offer a specialisation in Technology and Innovation. It’s also why we host Melbourne’s Global Legal Hackathon.
Academic excellence meets state-of-the-art facilities.
Monash students have access to the very best learning facilities, thanks to a recent $16 million refurbishment of our law school. The centrepiece of this is a functional moot court - the first of its kind in Australasia - that’s designed to help students develop the practical skills essential to a modern legal education.
With mediation rooms, sophisticated technology-driven learning spaces and a public oration forum, our facilities provide a superb forum for learning, research, teaching and debate. They also help attract prominent industry partners and academics, who want to engage with the best students in the most dynamic surrounds.
