Fostering Wholehearted Lawyers: Supporting Humanistic Values through Experiential Learning
Research shows legal employers seek humanistic values, such as integrity, empathy, trustworthiness, and resilience. Lawyers who integrate these heart-centered values into their professional lives achieve greater well-being— both career and life satisfaction.
This workshop will identify concrete and specific experiential learning approaches to support the cultivation and demonstration of humanistic values, which also include respect and care for others, deep listening, and best efforts.
Experiential pedagogy, positive heart-centered values, and justice-oriented lawyering are mutually reinforcing. Teaching and demonstrating humanistic values supports mutually beneficial relationships between lawyers and clients, and can lead to positive changes in law, legal culture, and society.
