Monash Law Clinics - Clayton
Monash Law Clinics - Clayton is a community legal centre (CLC) supported by the Law Faculty, State and Federal Governments. We provide free advice and assistance in a wide range of areas of law to members of the community. The Legal Service aims to help people who are unable to afford private legal assistance and representation or are unable to obtain access to the legal system because of language barriers or other disadvantage.
Tuesday Night Family Law Advice Only Session
The Tuesday Night Service is available to Monash students in all year levels.Preference will be given to those students who have undertaken study in Family Law.
You will be supervised by experienced Family Law barristers and solicitors as well as being mentored by experienced students. You would be required to volunteer fortnightly on a Tuesday evening from 6-8.30pm (approximately) for a 6 month period.
There are two intakes per year - April and September
Wednesday Night Advice Only Session
The Wednesday Night Service is available to Monash students in their first to third year of the LLB and first six trimesters of the JD.
The Wednesday night service deals with a range of matters including criminal; motor vehicle accidents; and neighbourhood disputes.
You will be supervised by experienced barristers and solicitors as well as being mentored by experienced students who have completed the elective unit 'Professional Practice'.
You would be required to volunteer fortnightly on a Wednesday evening from 6-8.30pm (approximately) for a 6 month period.
There are two intakes per year - April and September.

Family Law Assistance Program (FLAP)
The Family Law Assistance Program (FLAP) is part of Monash Law Clinics - Clayton and shares the same premises at 60 Beddoe Avenue.
FLAP provides assistance to people involved in contested family law matters who are otherwise unable to access legal assistance. FLAP also runs a duty service at the Federal Circuit Court in Dandenong and works in conjunction with the Chadstone Family Relationship Centre (Chadstone FRC) in various projects.
As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to develop practical legal skills through:
- interviewing clients;
- providing advice under supervision;
- drafting various family law court documents; and
- working with other law students in completing legal research tasks.
We will also provide training before you commence your time with us.
Volunteers are accepted throughout the year and are recruited on an as needs basis. You will be contacted if successful and when opportunities arise.
