Record group presentations using Zoom

Zoom allows students to run and record their group presentation in real time and upload the video for submission into Moodle. Using Zoom for group presentation videos enables students to practice group presentation and collaboration skills similar to a face-to-face presentation.

Set up your meeting

Once your presentation is ready and your slides are finalised, you should schedule a time where everyone in your team can meet to record the presentation. One person should be responsible for setting this up.

Recommendation:

Assign responsibilities

While you are running your presentation virtually, there are some additional steps that you need to consider to ensure it runs smoothly. Decide out who will do the following:

Have a practice round

Before you record your presentation for submission, it is a good idea to have at least one practice round so that you can work out the presentation flow with the technology.

Tips for recording with a webcam:

  • Put your webcam at eye level or higher – experiment for best angles.
  • Have a light source in front of you and not behind.
  • Make eye contact with the webcam and avoid looking too much at the screen.
  • Remove distractions from your background - you want the audience to focus on you and not your background.
  • Use a USB microphone if possible for better sound quality.

Record your group presentation

Now that you are ready, it’s time to record your group presentation. You can either set up the meeting to record automatically, or you can press Record during the meeting.

It is recommended that you record the video to your local device. When you Record to your local device, you need to select where the recording will be saved after you are finished the presentation. By default, there will be a Zoom folder created in My documents. It is not recommended to record to the cloud, though you may want to assign a group member this responsibility. Cloud storage is not entirely reliable and may not always keep the recording.

Upload your recorded video presentation

Once you have completed the recording of the group video presentation, you will need to submit this into your Moodle assignment. You can do this by either uploading the video to Panopto, or attaching it as a file.
