Monash University (Academic Board) Regulations, regulation 19A Amendment of final results and supplementary assessment due to COVID-19 pandemic:
- In this regulation, specified teaching period means a teaching period which the Academic Board has determined was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and to which this regulation applies.
- This regulation sets out the power to amend a student’s final results and the eligibility of a student for supplementary assessment for units of study undertaken during a specified teaching period as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- A student enrolled in a unit of study during a specified teaching period may have their final results in the unit of study amended in the manner determined by the Academic Board.
- The board of examiners of the degree faculty must offer a supplementary assessment to the student in respect of a unit of study undertaken during a specified teaching period if the student’s final result in the unit is no more than 10% below the required pass figure.
- A supplementary assessment must be in the form determined by the chief examiner for the unit of study.
- A student may be granted only one supplementary assessment in respect of each unit of study undertaken during a teaching period.
- A supplementary assessment granted under subregulation (4) does not count towards the number of supplementary assessments a student may be granted under regulation 19.
- The final result after a supplementary assessment is as determined by the board of the degree faculty. However, no more than 50% of the maximum mark for the unit may be awarded
Assessment Regime Procedure:
5. Supplementary assessment
5.1 The BOE of the degree faculty will determine a student’s eligibility for and grant supplementary assessment in accordance with section 19 of the Monash University (Academic Board) Regulations. Students can not apply for supplementary assessment. Eligible students can decline supplementary assessment.
5.2 The chief examiner (or delegate) is responsible for:
- designing the supplementary assessment to assess the failed learning outcomes;
- notifying students of the criteria by which their performance will be assessed;
- marking the assessment according to set criteria; and
- making feedback available to students.
5.3 The dean (or delegate) of the unit-owning or degree faculty respectively, can determine units or courses in which supplementary assessment is never available, and this must be stated in the Handbook.
5.4 Supplementary assessment is not available in single-unit enrolment (non-award study).
Eligibility
5.5 Supplementary assessment is only available to a student who:
- received a mark of 45 to 49;
- was enrolled in the unit in the last 12 months;
- has submitted all assessment tasks for the unit;
- has passed all other units in which they were enrolled during the same teaching period; and
- would be able to complete their course with a pass in the unit or if the BOE is satisfied that failure in the unit would significantly impact the student’s enrolment.
5.6 A maximum of two supplementary assessments are available to a student in any one course, and one supplementary assessment in any one unit.
Exemption in place due to COVID19 health emergency or associated travel restrictions
- If students achieve a mark of 40-49, they must be given the option for supplementary assessment in all units in approved teaching periods that meet the criteria. The previous cap of two units for supplementary assessments is relaxed.
- Any supplementary assessments granted under regulation 19A do not count towards the limit of two supplementary assessments per course set out in regulation 19.
- A student who undertakes a supplementary assessment may not be awarded a final mark of greater than 50.
