Getting started with Moodle
If you are a beginner with Moodle, this is the workshop for you. Don’t know your Dashboard from your Grader report? What is the difference between a Group and a Grouping? Come along to find out more about the basics of Moodle. Questions welcome! After completing this workshop, you’ll be able to find your way around your Moodle site and begin teaching with it.

Structuring your Moodle unit
Students respond to well-structured and signposted Moodle sites. Learn different methods and approaches for setting up your Moodle unit so that both you and your students find it easy to use, navigate and get work done. This workshop will look at and discuss examples of sites from different faculties across Monash.

Learn how to set up groups and groupings in Moodle. Learn the difference between groups and groupings and how you can use them effectively in conjunction with assignments and online activities.

Setting up your grading scheme in Moodle is important for both you and your students. Learn how to use categories, weightings and hurdles to achieve your desired outcomes.

Learn how to set up and run an effective Moodle quiz for formative or summative assessment. Topics covered include question types, using the question bank, and writing good questions.

Creating interactive activities using H5P
H5P is a set of tools you can use to create a range of engaging online activities and resources for your students. Learn about the functions of H5P interactive tools, how to use them in your teaching and how to build them in Moodle.

Recording video with Panopto
Video can be used to communicate complex ideas and to connect with students. This workshop will take you through the basics of connecting Panopto to your unit, recording and editing with Panopto desktop recorder including adding captions and interactive content such as quizzes. Learn how to use video to present content, give feedback and introduce yourself to students.

Zoom for teaching
Zoom can be used in a variety of teaching scenarios and provides an opportunity for students and educators to engage with each other in a live virtual environment. This workshop walks you through the basics of using Zoom in your teaching.

Interactive Online Workshops
This workshop will focus on structuring, designing and delivering learning activities in online synchronous workshops. We will look at how to use multiple technologies together including Zoom, Moodle and Google Drive to create activities and how to best use them in combination.

Livestreaming Training
If you are scheduled in a Livestream venue, you can access this training in the lead-up to semester to ensure that you are familiar with the technology, aware of the support in place and find out useful tips for presentation practices including discussion moderation to engage online students.

Introduction to Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams is a communication and collaboration platform available to everyone at Monash. What can you do with Teams to enhance your teaching and learning practice? Join the Monash Education Innovation team for a 30 minute overview of the features and functionality of this handy tool.

We know that getting students to work together is a valuable part of their learning experience. So how can we facilitate this in an online environment and in an effective way that is valuable to both you and your students? This workshop will look at how to use a range of tools in combination, including Moodle, Google Drive and MS Teams, to help you manage, monitor and support student teamwork in your units.

Common setup for Turnitin integration with your assignments will be investigated and interpretation of turnitin results will be discussed from both a student and educator perspective.

How to Access Learning Data
Learning technologies collect a vast range of data. From Moodle reports to Panopto statistics, where do you find these analytics? In this workshop you will explore how to set-up online learning to retrieve meaningful data. We will guide you through Moodle reports and other learning technology data.

Inform Your Teaching with Data
You have collected the data for student engagement, but what does it mean? Bring along some of your data from Moodle reports and Panopto. During this workshop we will look at how to collate data into something meaningful. We will discuss how to use the data to identify at-risk students to improve student engagement. We will also explore data trends to improve the learner experience.

FeedbackFruits Pilot
FeedbackFruits is a suite of tools within Moodle that allows students to share their work, give and receive feedback and grades, and gives a platform for educators to also provide feedback and allow for student interaction. In 2020, Monash Education Innovation is piloting FeedbackFruits to support assessment, feedback and interactivity.

Grades and Feedback on Tasks
Peer Review can be used to allow peers to provide grades or feedback on student work and allow for reflection on feedback.
Assignment Review can be used by educators to provide grades or feedback on student work and allow for reflection on feedback.
Grades and Feedback on Skills
Group Member Evaluation can be used to allow peers to provide grades or feedback on student skills and contribution and allow for reflection on feedback.
Skill Review can be used by educators to provide grades or feedback on student skills and contribution and allow for reflection on feedback.
Interactive Materials
The Interactive tools allow educators to share documents, video and audio for student collaboration (e.g., discussions, practice questions). If required, student interactions can be graded.
Comprehension
The Comprehension tool allows educators to guide students in the systematic comprehension of materials through predetermined topics and prompts. Annotations of peers can be made visible to allow for collaborative study.
Discussion Assignment
Discussion Assignment allows educators to structure online discussion for students, allowing for interaction and review of peer input. Students can comment and upvote on other students’ contributions and educators can also engage with students to guide the discussion.

A workshop walking you through how to export groups set up in Moodle and configure them for importing into Feedback Fruits tools.
