Special Collections Reading Room
The Special Collections Reading Room is provided for students and researchers to view items from the Rare Books Collection and other Special Collections materials held in closed storage, from the Asian Collections, Ada Booth Collection, and Music and Multimedia Collection.
We welcome all Monash University staff, students, members of the public and other institutions to use the collection. If you do not currently hold a visitors card with us, please call us on 9905 2689 to organise the material you would like to view, or email your requests to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can sign up for a free visitor's card.
Material should be requested prior to you visiting the room and is retrieved twice daily at 10am and 2pm. All borrowed items must be returned to staff upon leaving the room. If material is required for further study, please let staff know and these will be set aside for you.
If you are a member of the Monash University community, please request items through Search. Simply sign in to your library account, find the item you wish to view, select "Get it", then select "Request". You will receive an email when your items are ready to be viewed in the Special Collections Reading Room. If large numbers of items or collections of material are required, please discuss with Special Collections staff ahead of time.
Special Collections materials
Special Collections materials are currently unavailable for booking or viewing until further notice. The Library has taken this step as an important measure in preventing the spread of COVID-19, as well as the complexities we face in maintaining strict hygiene around the handling of these fragile materials.
