Japanese Teaching Collection (Monash Japanese Language Education Centre)
The Monash Japanese Language Education Centre (MJLEC) was established in 1996 with a grant to Monash University from the Nippon Foundation in Japan. The MJLEC is committed to improve the teaching of Japanese in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Its activities include the organisation of in-service training programs, lectures and workshops, study scholarships for teachers of Japanese, the development of teaching materials, research, the publication of a newsletter, and the MJLEC Collection.
The Japanese Teaching Collection was established in July 1997 as one of the major projects of the MJLEC, in collaboration with the Library. Teaching and other materials are available for loan to teachers who hold resource cards issued by the MJLEC. The Collection includes a range of materials suitable for use in the classroom, such as kits, flash cards, story books, cultural information, readers and workbooks, as well as audio-visual materials and CD-ROMs.
Japanese language teachers can arrange borrowing rights to the collection by completing the print registration form available from the Monash Japanese Language Education Centre or the Library's Japanese Teaching Collection staff. Teachers will then be issued a Library member card (no-fee) from the Library's information point. Holders of such a card can also borrow non-MJLEC materials from the Matheson Library.
The Japanese Teaching Collection is located at the Matheson Library, Clayton, on Level 1.
- Japanese Teaching Collection materials are labeled with a prefix MCJ and the call number.
- Materials in audio-visual formats (videos, DVDs, CDs, etc) are located in the Music and Multimedia Collection in the Matheson Library.
Postal service is available from the collection for teachers of Japanese language from across Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Further details of the process is available from the homepage of Monash Japanese Language Education Centre.
