Inclusive Teaching Toolkit
Inclusive teaching helps all students succeed at university. We've developed a toolkit to guide our staff to teach inclusively in the Library, which may apply in broader learning and teaching contexts. We're guided by the following six principles.

Be aware and informed
Get resources about the diverse experiences and backgrounds of students at Monash, and some tips about how to incorporate that knowledge in your teaching.

Reflect on your teaching practices
Teaching practice is continually evolving so it’s important to continue developing your teaching skills. Here you’ll find guidelines about how to reflect on and adapt your teaching practices.

Use inclusive language and resources
If you’re unsure about how to create resources that are accessible, or about the language for describing diverse students and their experiences, you’ll find helpful guidelines here.

Be flexible and responsive
There’s no one way to teach that includes all students, so the toolkit includes guidelines about how to stay flexible and respond to the needs of the students you’re teaching.

Be proactive and intentional
If you’re planning a class or online module, the toolkit can assist you in proactively including diverse students.

Display empathy and understanding
It’s easy to forget the challenges students face when learning. Being empathetic about learning processes can facilitate more inclusive teaching.
