Polixeni Papapetrou

Polixeni Papapetrou Artist, Self-employed
Art, Design and Architecture (PhD) 2007

I love the challenge of creating new work and once made, the places that it takes me. I have been to Asia, Europe and the Unites States for exhibitions of my work. My work explores the relationship between history, contemporary culture, identity and being. I’ve photographed a variety of subjects, including Elvis Presley fans, Marilyn Monroe impersonators, circus performers and body builders.

My PhD enabled me to explore a new theme, namely the representation of childhood in photography. The research as well as studio aspect of my degree took my work into a new direction forming the foundation of what I do now.

Note: Polixeni Papapetrou passed away in 2018. Condolences from her colleagues and friends at Monash Art, Design and Architecture.
