Stereolithography printing works by a photo-polymerisation process where a photosensitive liquid resin is cured by a high density laser beam All Resin printing at DFab is handled by our 3 Formlabs Form 3s using Low Force Stereolithography, a new printing technology that ensures both higher quality prints and improved mechanical properties than previous SLA technologies. Resin printing is perfect for high resolution detailed models with the form 3s capable of 25 macron X, Y & Z resolution. .

Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) printing, is a popular choice and is easily accessible for students new to 3D printing technology. The FDM printing process involves heating thermoplastic filament to its melting point and then extruding it layer by layer to ‘build’ an object.

If a print is highly complex or too large for the Zortrax or Ultimaker machines, the DFab Operated Large Format FDM printers (Ultimaker S5 or German RepRap x500) may be suitable for the job.

PVA Support printing is an FDM printing method that takes advantage of Dual Extrusion. PLA is extruded as the main model body, whilst all support structures/helpers are printed in PVA - a water-soluble material allowing easy support removal.  Once a print has been collected it can simply be placed in a container of warm water and left to dissolve.  
PVA printing allows detailed models to be printed with ease.

The Projet 660Pro Printer is a large format colour binding jet capable of full CMYK colour / texture models. The Projet works by spraying a solution of ink and binder selectively onto a thin bed of powder, bonding the powder layer by layer to form one or more solid forms. Plaster printing is a 3 step process, whereby models are; Printed, Depowdered and then infiltrated before being available for collection.
