MADA Master’s by Research course requirements

Coursework

Master of Arts:

Coursework is not compulsory, but strongly recommended. Candidates may not be able to transfer to the PhD program if they have not completed the two Master’s level coursework units.

Master of Design by Research:

  • ADM5001 Research Methods 1 - Semester 1
  • ADM5002 Research Methods 2 - Semester 2
  • OHS1000 Occupational Health and Safety (unless completed previously at Monash)

Master of Fine Art:

  • MDS5031 Research Methods 1 - Semester 1
  • MDS5022 Research Methods 2 - Semester 2
  • OHS1000 Occupational Health and Safety (unless completed previously at Monash)

Milestones

  • Confirmation at 8-9 months
  • Final Review at 15 months

Research Integrity & Induction

All Graduate Research candidates are required to undertake three compulsory training modules:

  • Faculty Induction
  • Monash University Induction
  • Research Integrity training

The Faculty Induction is completed when you first commence at MADA, and is organised by the MADA Graduate Research Office.

The remaining two modules are completed online via the myDevelopment system. These should be completed within the first month of your candidature.

They do not take long to complete (average approx. 45-60 minutes for both).

Submission and Examination

Master of Design and Master of Fine Art:

  • Exegesis submission at 22-23 months
  • Examination Exhibition at 24 months

Master of Arts: Thesis submission at 24 months
