MADA Senior Lecturer Daniel von Sturmer and Moya McKenna will discuss their painting process in this free talk and tour at the NGV.

Often considered a more traditional medium, why do contemporary artists choose to paint and how are they transforming the discipline?

Considered Britain’s greatest living painter, David Hockney’s quote ‘Shut up and paint’ displays his characteristic directness and hints at the important role painting plays in art today. The exhibition Shut Up and Paint, drawn from the NGV Collection, celebrates and examines contemporary painting and includes works by both local and international artists.

Learn about David Hockney’s approach to painting from Simon Maidment, curator of David Hockney: Current, and hear from local artists Moya McKenna and Daniel von Sturmer about their painting process as you tour their works on display in Shut Up and Paint.
