MADA Artforum: John Meade
Join us for a talk by John Meade, a Melbourne-based artist who employs rigorous geometry and soft organic forms in an intuitive way to materialise his ideas, creating tightly orchestrated pieces that explore the metaphysical, the surreal and the erotic.
Meade has exhibited his work throughout Australia and internationally since 1994, presenting over twenty-five solo exhibitions. He has received several significant public sculpture commissions, the most recent, Everyday Devotional (2017), for the Abian Botanic residential tower, Brisbane. His survey exhibition, curated by Zara Stanhope, Objects to Live By: The Art of John Meade, toured extensively throughout regional galleries in Australia through 2010-11. Other solo exhibitions include New Weekly, Ocular Lab, Melbourne, 2008; Incident in the Museum 2, Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne, 2005; and Propulsion, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne and Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, 2001. Selected group exhibitions include The Enigma Code, Sarah Scout Presents, Melbourne, 2018; A Billion Bucks, The Honeymoon Suite, Melbourne, 2016; Adventures with Form in Space, 4th Balnaves Sculpture Project, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, 2006; and 21st Century Modern, Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide, 2006.
