MADA Artforum: Martha@21: Sonic Bodies, Seizures and Spells
Join us for a talk by MADA artist-in-residence Richard Move. Move is Artistic Director of MoveOpolis!, a TEDGlobal Oxford Fellow and Professor of Drama, Theatre & Dance at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY). Move’s commissions include productions for Mikhail Baryshnikov and the White Oak Dance Project, Opera Ballet of Florence, Guggenheim Museum, Dame Shirley Bassey and Deborah Harry.
Martha@..., Move’s critically-acclaimed performances as 20th Century dance icon, Martha Graham, have garnered two New York Dance and Performance Awards (Bessies) and toured globally. The forum examines Move's performances of Martha@..., now in its 21st year. Move showcases the maverick, contemporary dance icon, through the evolving Martha@... events, including: Martha@MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in 20 Dancers for the XX Century (2013) and the world premiere staging of Graham’s once lost 1928 solo, Immigrant, (2017). The presentation highlights Move’s 2017 publication “Martha@...The 1963 Interview – Sonic Bodies, Seizures and Spells” in the Oxford Handbook of Dance and Reenactment – an exploration of Move’s 2011 and 2014 metatheatrical realization of Graham's onstage interview with critic Walter Terry.
