Addressing the lack of memorials and visibility in the public sphere to the histories, memories and legacy of the Frontier Wars, this exhibition led by MADA Lecturer Brook Andrew provides insight into the Australian Research Council research project, “Representation, Remembrance and the Memorial”.

Investigating trauma sites in Cambodia, the Americas, Mauritius, and Germany and connecting with local efforts to memorialise frontier massacres and repatriate human remains, Representation, Remembrance and the Memorial considers the possibilities for art, architecture, and design as memorial. This exhibition will include artworks by Brook Andrew, and the London-based Mauritius artist Shiraz Bayjoo; and interview recordings with Indigenous scholar Professor Marcia Langton, American architect Peter Eisenman and scholar of cultural memory, Andreas Huyssen.

Curated by Brook Andrew and Jessica Neath.
