Yvette James: Charge + Affect & Viva Hall: Score 1: Deflection
MADA’s student-run Intermission Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition, featuring works from third year Bachelor of Fine Art Yvette James and Viva Hall.
Yvette James: Charge + Affect
In an exploration of objects creating physical tension, Charge + Affect reflects the bodily influence objects create, both impinging the viewer and consuming the space. To create physical tension between two magnets with a charged yet empty void allows the viewer to reflect on the fragility and balance of the magnetic force and upon how their body moves through the space with the danger of impacting the piece.
Viva Hall: Score 1: Deflection
Viva Hall's work is a combination of spatial and sculptural pieces, as well as lighting/projections, that will work as a score that will be played intuitively and experimentally by a cellist. It explores the relationship between changes over time in the score and how it relates to duration and variation in music, and how a musician will have a different way of interpreting the work when it is read as a score. The material choices stem from an interest in the relationship between naturally occurring and synthetic everyday substances and objects and how they change over time, and transform through different manipulations.
