Public Works: Upstream Designer Launch Event
You are invited to Public Works: The Upstream Designer, a talk by Malmo City Architect Finn Williams.
Public Works is a project that looks at the role of the architect in the public sector. At its inaugural public event, Finn Williams, City Architect of Malmo, Co-Founder of Public Practice, presents his career working in the public interest via a pre-recorded film. This will be followed by a live Q&A between Finn Williams and presenters Professor Mel Dodd, Head of Department Monash University, Dr Timothy Moore Lecturer in Architecture, Monash University and Andy Fergus, Head of Urban Design at Assemble Communities.
This event Public Works: The Upstream Designer is a preamble to a two-day symposium of the same title running as part of Melbourne Design Week in March 2022. The symposium will investigate the role of architects and designers in the public sector, and the interface of the public sector with the built environment to shepherd in design that works in the public interest. Through a two-day event, including keynotes and panel discussions with Australia’s leading built environment professionals, Public Works investigates where briefs are constructed, budgets are drawn, allies are made, and good design is advocated for, and enforced.
