Dr Brian Martin awarded the VC’s Excellence Award for research impact
We are proud to share that Dr Brian Martin has received the Monash University Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Award for research impact.
Brian is a descendant of Bundjalung, MurraWarri and Kamilaroi peoples and is the inaugural Associate Dean Indigenous at Monash Art, Design and Architecture.
Among his accomplishments, Brian led the development of the Australian Indigenous Design Charter and contributed to the International Indigenous Design Charter, and he is the founding director of the Wominjeka Djeembana Indigenous research lab.
Through this work, Brian has reconfigured understandings of culture and visual practice from an Aboriginal perspective, enriching understandings of art for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people alike.
Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said despite 2020 being such a challenging year, it was important to recognise and celebrate what has been accomplished.
“To acknowledge the quality of what has been achieved through these awards is part of a broader recognition of superlative efforts of staff,” she said.
“These achievements epitomise the talent and potential of our University, as they continue to develop and enhance innovation and excellence in research, learning and teaching.”
