Thresholds and Displacements

PhD candidate

  • Leslie Eastman

I work primarily with site-conditioned ephemeral installations, emphasising the interwoven relationship between the subjective encounter and the surrounding world. Through these I aim to prompt larger revelations about the nature of perception itself.

The research identifies with a re-emergence of phenomenological art practice in the past decade that grounds an introspective aesthetic experience within the social domain. The works produced for the candidature focus on thresholds—of light, space, time, and inter-subjectivity—in an attempt to identify the framework of perception.

Drawing attention to these conditions is an allegorical approach intended ultimately to remind us of our place as embodied subjects open to otherness and the infinite.
