The use of temporary-transitional facilities is a cost-effective way of ensuring people can access opportunities within walking distance from home particularly for newly established masterplanned communities like Mambourin.

Researchers from Monash Urban Planning and Design and the Monash Urban Lab are engaged in the Living Locally Research Project on behalf of Resilient Melbourne, DELWP, Wydham City Council, and Frasers Property. The research focuses on strategies to stage the delivery of community infrastructure in Mambourin, a masterplanned community in the City of Wyndham. The work will help to guide the partner’s approach to creating 20-minute resilient neighbourhoods and building community connectedness in Melbourne’s outersuburban growth areas.
The site of Mambourin comprises 115 hectares of land including 1200 residential lots planned for development by 2024. The site is bounded by Armstrong Road to the east, the Outer Metropolitan Ring (OMR) transit corridor to the west, Black Forest Road to the south and Greens Road to the north. The vision of Mambourin is to create a 20-minute resilient neighbourhood where every day needs are met within a short walk, ride or public transport trip.
