Predictive Personalisation in Chile

Harnessing informal construction to improve the environmental performance of mass housing.

Self-construction is ubiquitously used in mass housing as an informal means to alleviate mismatches between the needs and preferences of different households and the characteristics of standardised homes.

There are strong links between residential quality perceptions and the extent and craftsmanship of these occupant-led interventions. However, lack of expert knowledge can result in these changes having a negative impact on the indoor environmental quality, energy efficiency and environmental performance of the homes.

This project uses data analytics and computational modelling to investigate the life cycle impacts of self-built housing modifications aiming to identify recurring patterns that can be used to inform environmental decision-making through predictive personalisation.
