PTUX – Public Transport User Experience

Creating a practical working knowledge of the user experience in public transport.

The impact of user experience into transport mode choice is broadly acknowledged but poorly understood. The majority of research in this area dismisses such problems as “soft factors”.

Grounded in the theories of design, psychology, user experience and transport planning, the project has four phases: discover, analyse, apply, synthesise. These phases will determine what the public transport user experience is, how the elements comprising such an experience function, the design and development of interventions to apply this knowledge and finally to create policy, a design manual, and other intervention outcomes into the field.

The project has commenced with preliminary literature review currently under peer-review, and will apply for ARC DP17 funding. Partners include Monash’s Public Transport Research Group (Engineering), and prospectively The Service and Market Oriented Transport Research Group at Karlstad University, Sweden.
