Fibreboard Electoral Equipment
Cultural shift in elections: lightening the load for democracy.
“The designs have proved their longevity and are the benchmark for the industry.” – A/Professor Arthur de Bono
This research was commissioned by AMCOR, one of Australia’s leading packaging and paper manufacturers. By shifting from heavy timber and metal construction to lightweight fibreboard a whole of system approach could be designed. The comprehensive system ranged from large, freestanding voting screens, through to crowd control systems and temporary work stations for electoral staff. This innovative approach to electoral furniture provided substantial benefits in terms of cost effectiveness, maintenance, manual handling, construction, occupational health and safety and functional and operational issues.
The designs received international recognition, and major elements of the system have been adopted or modified for use, so much so, that the design is now an integral part of the voting process.
