The Journey Home is a children’s storybook focusing on disassociation in regards to mental illness and the people who journey with it.

The basis of the story and the research around it stems from the designers personal experience with depres-sion and disassociation. So it was heavily based on conveying feeling in a visual medium.

By introducing themes about depression and disassociation at a young age, and shows characters experiencing the world from that perspective, insights mindfulness and openness later in life, and encourages youth to seek help.

The story follows the adventure of the genderless Fox making their way through their own mental state of disassociation; personified by the star, through slow progress and determination, and most importantly through the help of others. To ultimately make their way back to a state of well-being.
