Through the story of the Convincing Ground, this project seeks to reveal the embedded truth of the past as a means to resolve and heal the divided legacy it has produced. The scene of the first recorded massacre in Victoria, it is through an incision within the landscape that the trauma of the site is revealed and a space of healing emerges. Titled Convincing Ground, this space is conceived as a contemporary memorial where the silenced and suppressed stories of the past are revealed and where further agency for reconciliation arises. A space of painful acknowledgement, where historical guilt and grief are confronted, and through which the story of the Convincing Ground is able to resolve.
