Due to rapid global development and overconsumption, marine ecosystems are steadily degrading. Meanwhile, the fashion industry still produces more waste and consumes more resources to create more items. By removing plastic waste from the ocean for sustainable material production, Saikuru no umi creates an open recycling system as a whole-of-interior experience. This reconfigured beachfront building acts as an immersive loop including plastic waste collection, classification, cleaning, textile recycling and the production of slow fashion products. The whole project is a fully inhabitable system, with every aspect of the spatialised loop prompts people to understand the future of themselves within larger environments.
