Food waste is a serious concern in many developed nations and Australia is no exception. Alley Lab aims to get people to question the way that they discard waste and to change Australia’s perception towards it, to help pave the way for our food waste future. This project explores how spatial design can reinterpret rubbish to create both a playing and learning space. Change is needed, but it can only happen if the public are educated. This project intends to re-define waste as an opportunity to culturally enrich our lives. Rather than simply providing bins, the establishments involved will create installations that mask a composting system and performance space, which will encourage people to reconsider garbage as a resource.
