Coral bleaching is a serious environmental issue and Australian marine scientists say two-thirds of the Great Barrier Reef has been greatly damaged. Floating Journey creates a spatialized learning journey for children aboard a boat along three coral sites in the Great Barrier Reef. While the boat includes playspaces, sleeping quarters, collaborative classrooms and science labs; larger ‘interiors’ that include underwater space, coral reefs, and beaches are curated to support the learning on this journey. This project allows children to learn about precious marine ecosystems and responds to bodily and sensory experiences that strengthen the bond between constructed and ecological interiors.
