Monash Design + Design Fringe
For Diversity & Inclusion Week 2021
Monash Art, Design and Architecture partnered with the Design Fringe to explore big questions. As part of the program a small group of emerging student designers interrogated design problems that matter and that explore a range of issues related to diversity and inclusion.
The students worked collaboratively, in small groups and intensively over the course of a 1-week immersive program to co-frame to social problems that concern the broader public. These problems relate to the Design Fringe’s key focus areas: disability access, sustainability, gender equity, and First Nations.

Gender Safety
By delving into the data made available through hypersextcity.com, workshop participants determined how best to visualise the data to become more visible and effective to a broader public.
Inclusivity
Workshop participants used storytelling, visual mapping and reflective activities to provoke new perspectives and insights to create an inclusive environment for online participation.
Sustainability
In this workshop, participants aimed to understand our emotional responses to the climate emergency so that we can cultivate the agency required to face such complex challenges.
