Planning Project 3: The Sprawling City / Metropolitan Green Space Network
In 2020, students worked with Infrastructure Victoria and the Suburban Rail Loop Authority to plan and design for a metropolitan-scale green space network in Melbourne. Their proposals addressed a range of social, environmental, and public health issues including urban heat effects, social capital, chronic diseases, and inequitable access to green space.
The studio enabled students to gain advanced skillsets in GIS and statistics. Students developed predictive models to assess the impacts of alternative greenspace proposals on their chosen topics. They also applied remote sensing techniques to identify changes in greenspaces in all suburbs in Greater Melbourne area.
