Master of Project Management

With a Master of Project Management, you’ll learn how to manage complex projects and use innovative practices to deliver successful outcomes.

You will work on real-life projects and gain hands-on project leadership experience in a range of areas. You’ll also study alongside innovative professionals from a range of industries – including engineers, lawyers and architects – and build a network of like-minded colleagues.

Throughout the course, you will be supported with online mentors. You can focus on one discipline or choose from a range of discipline-specific electives covering IT, business, engineering, law and sustainability.

  • Location and duration

    Study on-campus full-time for 1, 1.5 or 2 years or part-time for 2, 3 or 4 years at Caulfield campus – depending on prior qualifications and work experience. Day, evening and block mode classes are available.

  • Start in 2020

    Applications for our Semester 1 intake (February 2020) are now open.

  • Entry requirements

    An Australian bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60 per cent or an equivalent GPA as determined by the School. Applicants will also need at least 6 months of professional work experience.

Course overview

  • Foundation studies

    Build on your existing professional work experience and better understand the principles and techniques of delivering projects using different methods, processes and knowledge frameworks. You’ll explore the techniques to manage stakeholders, communications, culture and politics.

  • Core studies

    These units will help you develop specialist expertise in complex project management. These studies will also introduce you to advanced graduate level concepts in project management within allied disciplines, including business, IT and engineering.

  • Electives

    As part of your degree you can choose from a range of electives from business, IT, engineering, arts and law. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on real-life projects with industry partners within local and international corporate, government and social contexts.

  • Advanced studies

    Towards the end of your degree you can choose between a professional or research pathway. For the professional pathway, you’ll undertake a field or interdisciplinary team project, putting theory into practice and developing advanced expertise in managing projects.

    Chivonne is the course director and has more than 20 years international industry experience as a project management champion.

  • Robert Moehler

    Robert is from the Faculty of Engineering and has more than 10 years international experience as a practitioner, academic and researcher.

  • Gro Bjerknes

    Gro is from the Faculty of IT and has global industry experience as a project manager. Gro’s focus is on business analysis, information systems and PRinCE2.

  • Sajad Fayezi

    Sajad is from Monash Business School and is an academic and researcher in project management. Sajad is also a subject specialist in supply chain management.

    The course is informed by an industry advisory council, which includes experts from different industries across Australia. The advisory council ensures that the Master of Project Management is industry aligned so that you’re gaining knowledge and skills that you can implement straight into your workplace.
