Lakshmin has researched in a wide range of areas within the discipline of Geography. Her work is now exploring migration-related issues, which is the basis for her PhD research titled, ‘Searching for Environmental Migration Management Best Practices in the Pacific’.
Her research aligns well with the work of the Conference of Parties. Since 2010, member states have recognised that if well-planned and managed, both migration and relocation can be effective adaptation strategies for communities acutely affected by environmental change (i.e. climate change). However, there is limited knowledge about environmental migration management policies; that is, what are they, where do they come from, how they are produced, and are they viable for environmental migration management. By addressing these gaps, her research aims to provide information on workable policy solutions for environmental migration management.
