Belinda Smaill

Belinda is head of Film and Screen Studies at Monash University. Her research interests encompass women and cinema, Australian film and television and documentary film. Her recent research projects have explored nonfiction moving image culture, animals and the environment. She is currently working on a project exploring screen media culture and oceanic imaginaries in relation to environmental issues, including climate change. This work is located across film studies and the environmental humanities. Belinda is the author of The Documentary: Politics, Emotion, Culture (Palgrave, 2010), Regarding Life: Animals and the Documentary Moving Image (SUNY Press, 2016) and co-author of Transnational Australian Cinema: Ethics in the Asian Diasporas (Lexington Books, 2013).
