Johan Lidberg

Johan is the Australian representative in the international research group MediaClimate. The project captures and investigates media coverage of climate change coverage in 22 countries. It sets out to analyse climate change reporting both (1) as a manifestation of the rapidly changing context wherein contemporary journalism takes place and (2) as an illustration of the political re-formation of the issue of climate change in the post-Copenhagen (COP15) and post-Paris (COP21) era. The research group incorporates members from OECD, emerging and developing economies and democracies. This means that the research findings offer a truly global perspective on communicating climate change. The MediaClimate project has published three books looking at: local/global reporting of climate change, coverage of the Copenhagen Climate Summit in 2009 and the reporting of IPCC AR5. The MediaClimate research group intersects with Johan’s other research areas in information access and media ethics and accountability.
