Liza Barbour
Liza is a teaching affiliate and PhD candidate in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food at Monash University. As an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian (AdvAPD) with over a decade of practical experience in Community Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition, Liza designed and teaches a 3rd-year Bachelor of Nutrition Science unit which aims to inspire our future nutrition workforce to mitigate the affects of climate change in various healthcare and community settings and contribute to improving our food systems (globally and locally) to minimise their environmental impact.
In collaboration with Nursing, Midwifery and Medicine, she is also involved in research to understand the knowledge, attitudes and capacity of Monash University's health professional educators to teach environmental sustainability and climate change content to tertiary health professional students. On a personal level, Liza's PhD thesis seeks to describe the role of local governments in promoting healthy and environmentally sustainable food behaviours, and to understand the way that evidence is used in developing these policy interventions.
