Briony Rogers
A/Prof. Briony Rogers is Director of MSDI Water, and leads social and interdisciplinary research on transitions in water management and climate resilience with the Cooperative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities and the Australia-Indonesia Centre. Briony utilises a variety of research approaches, including theory development, case study investigations and action research involving participatory benchmarking, visioning and strategic planning processes. Through this research, Briony aims to influence science, policy and practice through the development of new conceptual frameworks, process methodologies and diagnostic tools that can provide insight and guidance on how city stakeholders can collectively drive transformative change towards a more liveable, sustainable and resilient future. Briony’s expertise makes her well-placed to advise on the presentation and communication of climate change impacts on water resources in regions and cities around Australia.
Briony has an interdisciplinary background with a PhD in Environmental Sociology, a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science. Prior to entering academia, She worked as an engineering consultant on water infrastructure projects in Australia and Vietnam. In 2014, Briony was selected by the International Social Science Council as one of twenty World Social Science Fellows in the area of sustainable urbanisation. She is a committee member of Monash Water Sensitive Cities in the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, and co-chairs the International Working Group on Water Sensitive Urban Design.
