Information for Patients requiring Thiopurine Metabolites Blood or Faecal Calprotectin Testing
Your doctor has requested for you to have a Thiopurine Metabolite and/or Faecal Calprotectin test. You are not required to fast for either of these tests and it does not matter what time of day the test is done. Please go to your nearest pathology centre with your referral to have you blood/faecal samples collected and sent to us.
Patients do not need to fast and there is no specific time of day requirement for either of these tests. Patients can conduct their normal daily routines including taking medications as prescibed by their doctor.
Please note that there is an out of pocket expense involved with these tests and there are no concession rates available. You may have your blood/faecal sample taken at any pathology centre in Australia. Costs are outlined below.
- Thiopurine Metabolites Test: Cost is $145 (plus some pathology centres may add a cost to this amount for their services to you e.g courier charges). Cost to Eastern Health patients is at a discounted rate.
- Faecal Calprotectin Test: Cost is $75 (plus some pathology centres may add a cost to this amount for their services to you e.g courier charges). Cost to Eastern Health patients is at a discounted rate.
If you have your test done through Eastern Health an invoice will be sent directly to you. If you have your test conducted through another pathology centre they will be billed and will then pass the relevant costs on to you. Testing takes several days to conduct. Once you have had your blood or faecal sample taken please allow 2 weeks for your results to be sent back to your referring practitioner.
If you wish to discuss the reason this testing has been requested or should you have any other queries please contact your referring practitioner.
