Professor Ian Davis

Welcome to the web site for the Eastern Health Clinical School (EHCS).

EHCS is a School of the Monash University Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and for medical student teaching also partners with Deakin University. EHCS/ represents the universities’ presence in Eastern Health, a large and rapidly-growing area of urban and outer Melbourne. Eastern Health covers 2816 square kilometres in which well over 700,000 people live.

It comprises seven major hospitals and a large range of community facilities including rehabilitation, community health, residential care, mental health, and State-wide services such as Turning Point Alcohol & Drug Centre. EHCS is closely integrated with Eastern Health’s clinical services throughout the region. The EHCS offices are based at the Box Hill Hospital campus but EHCS also has a significant presence at Maroondah, Angliss, Healesville and District hospitals, as well as Wantirna Health, Peter James Centre and Yarra Ranges Health.

Eastern Health has strong links with all the major universities and the Medical Student Program provides teaching in all aspects of the clinical years for medical students from Monash |University and Deakin University. The program includes rotations in  Medicine, Surgery, Musculoskeletal Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry, General Practice, Aged Care, Critical Care, Anaesthetics, Emergency Medicine, and diverse subspecialties. The Eastern Health medical elective placements are managed by EHCS. Our teaching and research programs build on our expertise and HDR (higher degree research) opportunities exist for interested postgraduates.

EHCS also includes the Eastern Clinical Research Unit (ECRU), a vigorous unit supporting clinical trials across a range of disciplines. Basic and translational research occurs at the Box Hill campus and there are strong links with collaborators across Melbourne as well as nationally and internationally. Many of our clinicians and researchers are recognised as international leaders in their fields.

EHCS is committed to achieving the best outcomes for its undergraduate and postgraduate students; performing the best quality research; providing clinical leadership and excellence; and applying all of this in the community to improve health outcomes. It is a growing and vibrant School with rich opportunities through its university and Eastern Health links.
