Mildura lecturer wins national student-nominated teaching award

Mildura based GP registrar, Dr Kane Treble, has won the 2019 AMSA Doctor-in-Training National Award for Excellence in Teaching.

AMSA (Australian Medical Students' Association) is the peak representative body for the 17,000 medical students in Australia. The annual Excellence in Teaching Awards celebrate great teachers in medical schools and hospitals around Australia.

Dr Treble has been teaching at Monash Rural Health in Mildura while working as an emergency medicine registrar at the Mildura Base Hospital. Since the birth of his son, Xavier, Dr Treble has moved to general practice, but continues to teach with Monash.

A graduate of Monash, he says it was instilled in him as a student that teaching is just part of what you do as a doctor.

“It was always reassuring that doctors like Kane hadn't forgotten the struggles of being a student, and would frequently reiterate the importance of self-care as paramount,” said one of the students who nominated him for the award.
