Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences Alumni and Students come together for the MUMUS International Careers Night
Monash international medical students and alumni came together last month for the MUMUS International Careers Night, to give current international students a chance to network and listen to International alumni speakers.
Speakers were invited from different countries and different specialties in order to provide a broad range of insights into the range of career pathways that alumni have navigated. Students also had the exclusive opportunity to interact with the alumni and have any specific queries answered by them during the speed networking segment.
International alumni, Dr Adam Mohd Idris, Consultant Geriatrician, General Medicine, Monash Health (Malaysia); Dr Bryan Tan, Global Head of Medical Affairs, Senior Medical Officer (Singapore); Dr Emily Yeung, Chief Registrar, Monash Health (Canada); and Dr Sean Tan, Cardiology Consultant, PhD Fellow, Monash Heart (Malaysia), provided their insight and experiences regarding life after graduating, career pathways and migration issues as part of a panel discussion.
Other alumni present for the speed networking part of the evening included Dr Anna Antony, Consultant Rheumatologist, Monash Health; Dr Bryan Tan, Infectious Disease Advanced Trainee, Monash Health; Dr Caleb Lin, Emergency Advanced Trainee, Alfred Health; Dr Lynn Tan, Basic Physician Trainee, Alfred Health; Dr Li Theng Novia Tan, ICU Registrar, St Vincent's Melbourne; Dr Naz Syed Noh, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Dr Zee Lim, Anaesthesiology Registrar, Austin Health.
MUMUS International Representatives, Thilak Pandian and Charles Ruan worked together with the MNHS Alumni Relations team, as well as Deputy Dean (Medicine), Professor Michelle Leech, to host the International Careers Evening. The event was one of the most highly subscribed events across all year levels and was the MUMUS headline event for 2022, held in-person for the first time since 2019.
MUMUS International Representative, Thilak Pandian said, “Through the event, the current international students were able to benefit from the various experiences and learnings of our alumni. The invaluable personal advice provided by the speakers was a valuable takeaway that many of the attendees highlighted to the organising team.”
