Students celebrate Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Week
Monash medical students are coming together to promote and commit to equity, diversity ad inclusion.
MUMUS is proud to have its own gender equity group for supporting, advocating and educating to advance the causes of female-identifying and non-binary medical students at Monash University and beyond. With the help of the MUMUS Gender Equity Group and staff from the Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences Faculty, MUSIG put together a fantastic night showcasing 12 female alumni speakers, including consultant surgeons, residents and registrars. Students also enjoyed canapés and drinks while they networked with fellow medical students and Monash alumni surgeons.
“We want to keep challenging the areas of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and bring more events like ‘Women in Surgery’ to Monash students,” said MUSIG Co-Chair Georgia Dawson.
This week, Monash students and staff will continue further explore and celebrate the diversity of our community at an assortment of university events that are held annually for Equity, diversion and Inclusion Week 2022. The events will be run at Monash campuses across Melbourne, Malaysia and Indonesia. The many activities range from student and staff workshops to Pride pool and squash sessions open to the whole community.
Here at Monash, we seek to foster an environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect: where our rich diversity of staff and students will not only be accepted, but celebrated.
