Early Career Researchers

Early career researchers

Monash Nursing and Midwifery aims to facilitate career development and research amongst Early Career Researchers (ECRs); academic staff members who are within 10 years of their PhD conferral (taking career disruptions into account).

To support the development of ECRs the following strategies have been implemented:

  • Mentoring within Monash Nursing and Midwifery, where ECRs are aligned with experienced researchers who can act as a mentor to guide, support and offer advice to facilitate the development of ECRs in all areas of career development.
  • An ECR Peer Support Group has been established within Monash Nursing and Midwifery to foster supportive peer relationships amongst the ECRs who are at a similar stage in their career.
  • To support and encourage the advancement of ECRs, Monash Nursing and Midwifery offers internal grants. The goal is to build the track record of ECRs to make them competitive for external grants and ensure ECRs have the opportunity to undertake important research.
  • The inclusion of two ECRs at School and Faculty meetings to represent the interests of ECRs within Monash Nursing and Midwifery.
  • ECRs are provided with professional development opportunities that focus on career progression, research outputs and improvement of research skills, such as; grant writing, writing retreats, supervision training
