Course or campus transfer
If you’ve already applied for a course or campus transfer, check the section, after you apply, to find out what happens next.
You can apply for an internal transfer if you want to transfer:
- from one Monash coursework degree to another, and/or
- your course to a different Monash campus
- from a single degree to a double degree.
You must be a current Monash University student when applying for a transfer. You can only transfer between the same course type (e.g. from one bachelor degree to another bachelor degree) and only if you haven't completed your course. If you're completing your current course and wish to enrol in another, you'll need to apply as instructed on our find a course page.
Masters by research or doctoral degree students should contact their faculty or Graduate Research about transfers.
Eligibility
Transferring course or campus is part of a competitive selection process. This means that you'll be competing with other students for a place in the course.
The minimum eligibility requirements for a course transfer are:
- being a current Monash student (you must maintain your enrolment)
- meeting the prerequisites for the new course
- performing at an appropriate level in your current course
- successful completion of at least 12 credit points of a Monash University course
- meeting prerequisites for both single degree courses if applying to transfer from a single to a double degree.
The actual requirements for transfer may be higher.
These are set by the faculty managing the course, including the number of completed credit points required to be considered for a transfer. Check the course transfer requirements carefully, before making an application for a transfer.
Credit for previous studies
If successful, you may be eligible for credit. Credit is awarded only if your previous studies are relevant to the new course.

Check the additional entry requirements for course transfers: The faculty could also take into account your results for units relevant to the proposed course, or credit points you’ve completed in your current course.
- any restrictions to transfer considering your current course or location
- minimum WAM – you'll be able to see your current course and WAM when you apply for a transfer
- prerequisite units
- specific documentation to include with your application
- specific requirements such as auditions, interviews, entry tests or a Nursing English Declaration Form (for nursing courses).
Results for units relevant to the course, or credit points you’ve completed may be considered before offers are made.
- Up to three course preferences
- The reason you're applying for a course transfer
- Whether you want a credit assessment on your completed Monash units
- Whether you want credit from external studies – be prepared with your transcripts and previous unit/s synopsis
- Documents to support your application such as personal statements, resume/CV
Application guidelines
- You can apply for a maximum of three course preferences in one application.
- You can only submit one application – so think carefully about your preferences.
- One course offer will be made, which will be for your highest eligible preference – so think carefully about your preference order.
- Don't forget to upload supporting documents with your application.
When your application is in DRAFT, you can:
- add, delete or change the order of preferences
- change the response to your questions
- add or delete documents.
When your application is in SUBMITTED, you:
- won’t be able to make changes to your application
- will be able to track your application assessment status.
Changing preferences
To change your preferences after submitting your application, contact Monash Connect to reset your application to draft. You can then update your preferences and resubmit the application before the deadline.
The last day to request to change your preferences is:
Students in Australia: Tuesday, 4 June
Students in Malaysia: Monday 29 April
Change of preference requests received after this deadline cannot be accommodated.
To add documents to your application after submitting it, contact Monash Connect. We’ll forward your documents to the faculty to be added to your application.
Make your application
After you apply
While you're waiting for the outcome of your application, you need to:
- stay enrolled in your current course (and re-enrol in units for the following year during the re-enrolment period), and
- pay any course fees owing for your current enrolment.
When you log into your course transfer application to view your outcome, you may see some feedback from the faculty about your application.
If successful, you'll receive an offer for your highest eligible preference (see notification dates in the section below).
If all your course preferences have been declined by the faculty, you'll be notified earlier. You can apply to transfer in the next intake or discuss alternative paths for entry with the faculty by contacting Monash Connect.
If you’d like to withdraw your course transfer application (before or after the application closing date), contact Monash Connect.

CoE and visa
If the faculty approves your transfer application, you'll get a course offer (International Student Course Agreement).
If you’re currently enrolled in an Australian campus and transferring to another course in Australia, Monash Connect will automatically email you a new Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) so you don't need to apply for one. You won't need to tell the Department of Home Affairs that you're changing course as they can access your information in the new CoE. You may need to apply for a student visa – please check our visa requirements page for more information.
If you’re transferring to Australia from an off-shore campus, Admissions will send you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) which you’ll use to apply for your student visa.
Course duration and study load
Check your new course duration. If it’s longer than your previous course, you may need to apply for a student visa – for details, check extending your stay (student visas).
Keep in mind, if you’re on a student visa, you need to enrol in a full-time study load (24 credit points per semester). For more information, see study load.
