About the Workforce Program - South East Education and Training Cluster

LAMPS (Latrobe Regional Hospital Mental Health Services, Alfred Psychiatry, Monash Health, Peninsula Health Psychiatric Services, Southern Synergy)

In Mid 2004 the Victorian DHS Mental Health Branch initiated projects across the State to explore potential advantages in collaborations across broad working groups of mental health services. Southern Synergy carried out the first round of consultation and needs assessment in this cluster leading to a report to DHS in July 2004. This initial needs assessment process has developed into the current workforce development initiative called South East Education and Training Cluster. The South East Education and Training Cluster includes Monash Health, Alfred Psychiatry at Bayside Health, Peninsula Health Psychiatric Services and Latrobe Regional Hospital Mental Health Services.

Activities of the cluster vary from year to year. The cluster has taken a project and developmental perspective in most years. Throughout the development of the cluster work plan there has been continued commitment for the establishment of balanced and equitable partnerships between participating agencies. Within the cluster Steering Group, it is acknowledged, that participating health services each have particular strengths to contribute to the cluster and that all services have something to gain by this involvement. As a tangible commitment to this principle, leadership of projects is shared across the cluster with each member taking various lead roles.

How much does training cost?

Costs are outlined in each event. Some LAMPS training is completely free to participants who are employees of our cluster organisations (see below). Our calendar also includes other regional providers and some conferences. These may have a nominal fee and their own registration arrangements.

There are no registration fees.

Other costs associated with attendance at training, e.g. transport, parking and accommodation (if necessary) are the responsibility of the agency or staff member.

Who is eligible to attend LAMPS training?

Priority for LAMPS-sponsored training* will be given to staff employed by the four area mental health services that comprise our member organisations outlined in our acronym (Latrobe Regional Hospital, Alfred Health, Monash Health, and Peninsula Health). As a reflection of the increased synergy between the two sectors, staff of Victoria's Mental Health Community Support Sector (MHCSS) and clinical mental health services staff of MHCSS's are now able to attend LAMPS events free of charge.

Staff from the Western and NEVIL clusters and staff of other agencies may attend if there are still vacancies prior to training. Once you register you will be advised of the waitlist and contacted should spaces become available. There may be a nominal fee for such participants, to cover speaker, venue hire and catering costs.

LAMPS / NEVIL / WESTERN CLUSTER Agreement

Clinicians from LAMPS can apply for a position in training programs managed by NEVIL and Western Cluster. When applying for NEVIL programs, if a code is requested lamps.admin@monash.edu can provide this.

How do I register to attend training?

It is most important that you include your valid work email address.  You will then receive a CONFIRMATION EMAIL and any updates required prior to the training.

When should I register for a training activity?

You should register as early as possible, ideally no later than two weeks prior to an event.  This will help ensure your attendance for popular events and will assist your workplace to manage staffing arrangements most effectively.  It will also reduce the cancellation of workshops due to lack of registrations. PLEASE DO NOT TURN UP AT A TRAINING EVENT IF YOU HAVE NOT REGISTERED AND RECEIVED A CONFIRMATION EMAIL. It is poor form and disrespectful to your colleagues as often others may have been on a waiting list.

Failure to attend

Staff who register and fail to attend will be required to pay a $50.00 fine as occurs with all staff registering for LAMPS programs. If you choose to give your training place to another staff it has to be with 24 hours notice.

Private Practice & Non-Mental Health Services

LAMPS is funded by DHHS for state-funded mental health service clinicians. As such we charge a fee for people who attend who work in private practice or non-mental healthcare services. These are designated by the 'ALL" on the calendar. If you do not use your work email you will be asked to submit contact details for your organisation. Failure to do comply will void your registration.

Registrations close 48 hours prior to an activity

LAMPS is based in Monash University at Dandenong Hospital and is auspiced through Monash Health. The LAMPS Steering Committee comprises representatives from each of the participating agencies, disciplines and consumer and carer consultants.
