When selecting internationally trained candidates who are most likely to become good healthcare professionals, you want someone who not only has the necessary medical knowledge but also the language proficiency and clinical communication skills to deliver patient safety and quality of care. OET (the Occupational English Test) can assist.

OET assesses all four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking), using real communication scenarios that candidates are likely to meet in the healthcare workplace. Research has shown that successful OET test-takers are able to communicate on matters that are both technical and emotional, and can use lay language that patients easily understand (Vidakovic & Khalifa, 2013).

OET covers 12 different healthcare professions and may be used by medical schools as an entrance or exit test.
