Ms Lesley Hawes
BSc(hons), MPH, MASM
PhD student, Department of General Practice, Monash University: Lesley’s main focus is to analyse and support antibiotic stewardship in general practice.
Supervisors: Prof Danielle Mazza; Associate Professor Kirsty Buising; Dr Lyle Turner
Lesley's PhD is funded by the National Centre for Antimicrobial Stewardship (NCAS).
She will quantitatively examine the MAGNET database comparing antimicrobial prescribing in adults to recommended guidelines; interview GPs to understand prescribing practices and then, using quality improvement and implementation science, develop interventions to reduce inappropriate antimicrobial prescribing in general practice.
Lesley's background is in hospital microbiology and she is a sessional microbiology tutor and laboratory demonstrator to medical students. Lesley has also worked with general practitioners: as state wide coordinator of a general practitioner-led clinical risk management program for GPs working in Victoria’s small rural hospitals; and more recently, supporting the teaching and learning of medical students on general practice placements.
