Dr Karen Price
PhD Title: The Role of Peer Connection in General Practice
Supervisors: Associate Professor Lyn Clearihan and Associate Professor Jan Coles.
Dr Price is a clinician with 25 years' experience in General Practice. Karen has been Chair of the Women In General Practice Committee Victorian Faculty, RACGP 2012-2014 and has participated in International Workshops at Wonca relating to Barriers to Women's Leadership.
Via her role at the RACGP Dr Price currently holds ethics approval for a mentoring program for Women GPs which was piloted this year via the RACGP. She has provided mentoring advice via the RACGP mentoring sub-committee to the Victorian Branch of the AMA.
Dr Price was a business owner from 1997-2007 and has a great understanding of the business case for quality primary health care.
In Education environments she has been a facilitator for two small group learning formats for the RACGP for seventeen years and has contributed to organisation and development of the annual Women in General Practice Conference. She is also a developer and co facilitator on the GPs Down Under networking site for Australian General Practitioners and has presented on the use of social media for medical education at Conferences in Australia including overseas collaborations with UK GPs.
Dr Price continues to work clinically and is a part time candidate who commenced her PhD in April 2014. The thesis is a mixed methods proposal and aims to further characterise the concept of GP peer connection and its implications for well-being within the Australian General Practice workforce.
