Associate Professor Peter Schattner is a GP in East Bentleigh and has an adjunct appointment in the Department of General Practice.

His previous academic  interests were mainly in:

  • teaching research methods especially by distance education, particularly  through the Masters degrees;
  • supervising higher degree research students (Masters and PhD);
  • conducting health service research (in primary care, and especially in  chronic disease management); and
  • promoting and conducting research into information management in general  practice.

Peter first gained  a part-time appointment in the Department in the late 1980s and has an  extensive list of medium-sized research grants and publications in the field of  general practice. He has run workshops for GPs on research methods, evidence  based practice and information technology.

Peter was a  previous chair of the Marketing and Promotions Committee, and the Academic  Seminar Series Committee.

He has also  conducted consultancies for the Commonwealth Government, presented at numerous  international conferences and written a book on the use of computers in general  practice. He was a chair of the international Wonca Informatics Working Party.

Peter remains  interested in consultancy work for postgraduate education and research  projects. Contact details are above.
